At least 30 military personnel have been killed in Friday night following an attack by terrorist group Boko Haram.
67 soldiers from Niger and Nigeria were wounded during the attack, Niger defence officials said in a statement.
The clashes occured at Bosso, near the border of Nigeria. Niger military officials also announced killing some terrorists without giving any figures.
The jihadists temporarily took control of the town before being pushed back. They attacked military positions with heavily armed vehicles.
Calm is reportedly back at Bosso but military operations to find the terrorists are ongoing.
Niger’s army has suffered several losses since it joined the war against Boko Haram in February 2015.
The soldiers killed Friday night represent the highest loss so far by the Nigerien army.
About 200 people protested the frequent attacks by the terrorists on Saturday in the capital Niamey. The protest march brought together politicians, trade unionists and members of the civil society.
